Mechanobiology in Epithelial
3D Tissue Constructs
Department Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Inflammation Pharmacology
Job site: RWTH Aachen University Hospital
Description of the position: PhD Position: Regulation of epithelial-endothelial signaling
Job description: Our profile
The Inflammation Pharmacology team studies basic mechanisms of inflammatory responses on molecular, cellular, tissue and organ level. Focus is on inflammatory mediators, proteases and mechanical forces that regulate these responses.

Your tasks
You will be part of the DFG-funded graduate school Mechanobiology in Epithelial 3D Tissue Constructs (MEƎT; me3t.rwth-aachen.de). In project C1 ' Regulation of the epithelial-endothelial signaling interface by shear stress and substrate stiffness’ you will  use an endothelial-epithelial co-culture system and investigate how conditions of blood flow and softness of the extracellular matrix can influence cellular responses and the cross talk between the two cell layers. By this you will define mechanobiological processes that allow to improve physiological modelling of lung tissue and to prevent undesired inflammatory responses.
The successful applicant must be accepted either as a Dr. rer. nat. or a Dr. rer. medic candidate at RWTH Aachen University.
Requirements / Your profile: Your profile
You have successfully completed your Master studies in life sciences such as biology, biochemistry, biophysics or biotechnology or finished your MD. During your studies you have acquired comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in cell biology, tissue culture or mechanobiology. You intend to obtain a doctorate on a challenging interdisciplinary topic. You want to further develop cutting-edge techniques of mechanobiology and tissue engineering. Beside your scientific qualification you distinguish yourself by a high motivation, resilience, sense of responsibility and team spirit. You are fluent in written and spoken English.
