CM 0 - Introduction to MEƎT's mission, rules, challenges and
communication etiquette (1 ECTS)
This two-day module is intended to (i) introduce the doctoral researcher to the RTG, (ii) provide a forum for discussing and agreeing on rules of scientific exchange and (iii) increase awareness of challenges inherent in cross-sectional communication. It is a mandatory requirement for every newly recruited doctoral researcher with the aim of optimizing interaction from the beginning and to laying down common rules. The module consists of four major topic areas, each of which will be dealt with in a half-day session:
Organization and rules of MEƎT (coordinator and spokesperson): We introduce the students to the overarching goals and organizational structure of the RTG, to its curriculum and to the requirements for successful completion of the program.
Data management (HYPERLINK "http://www.medizin.rwth-aachen.de/cms/Medizin/Die-Fakultaet/Einrichtungen/~coeh/Das-audiovisuelle-Medienzentrum/?lidx=1" AVMZ/RWTH): This part provides training in collecting, storing, editing and providing research data. We will lay down rules for sustainable data storage formats and lab protocols. We are committed to critically testing and implementing suitable electronic lab journals such as Labguru/Labfolder, which are already in use in some of the participating groups. The overall aim is to facilitate easy and rapid transfer of large data sets (HYPERLINK "https://www.sciebo.de/" SCIEBO), to optimize free accessibility of data for all RTG members, and to ensure rigorous quality control.
Good scientific practice (CDS): We address scientific ethics and present the rules of good scientific practice. Special emphasis is given to responsible data generation, curation, storage, reproducibility, and statistical analysis in the context of MEƎT's research field.
Sensitization to differences relating to gender, culture, and education (together with RWTH's division for Gender and Diversity Management (IGaD)): Given the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation and communication, we consider this to be particularly valuable. Awareness of differences in these different areas help to overcome barriers to establishing successful and long-lasting co-operation.
